Jesus Said “Feed My Sheep”

This picture dropped out of an old photo album while going through our storage of stuff. I forgot all about it and got a kick out of how I could relate it to this poem I came across and the pictures and scriptures below. It’s of me at a family friends ranch in the Summer of 1959.

SHEPHERD, show me how to goโ€‚
O’er the hillside steep,
How to gather, how to sow, โ€ƒ
How to feed Thy sheep;
I will listen for Thy voice,โ€ƒ
Lest my footsteps stray;
I will follow and rejoiceโ€ƒ
All the rugged way.

Thou wilt bind the stubborn will,โ€ƒ
Wound the callous breast,
Make self-righteousness be still,โ€ƒ
Break earth’s stupid rest.
Strangers on a barren shore,โ€ƒ
Lab’ring long and lone,
We would enter by the door,โ€ƒ
And Thou know’st Thine own.

So, when day grows dark and cold,โ€ƒ
Tear or triumph harms,
Lead Thy lambkins to the fold,โ€ƒ
Take them in Thine arms;
Feed the hungry, heal the heart.โ€ƒ
Till the morning’s beam;
White as wool, ere they depart,โ€ƒ
Shepherd, wash them clean.

Mary Baker Eddy

So Jesus told them this story:ย โ€œIf a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Wonโ€™t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it?ย ย  Luke 15:4

โ€œHe shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.โ€ Isaiah 40:11

This conversation took place at Tiberius (Lake Galilee), after Jesus had risen from the dead. Peter and other disciples were fishing. Jesus appeared, caused their nets to be filled, and invited them to add some fish to the breakfast he was cooking.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. John 10:2728
